22K gold leaf, medium density fiber board
RobertoCardinale presents the Jubilee Church, designed by noted architectRichard Meier in Rome, Italy, in 2000.TheJubilee Church was formally known asChiesa di Dio Padre Misericordioso(Italian for "Church of God the Merciful Father".
Striving to capture the emotion and history that is imbued in the structure itself, Cardinale designs several elements that nod to the original Jubilee Church. He uses his own artistic mastery to sculpt its extraordinary, overlapping faade, evoking the cosmic geometry of the Renaissance. Upon a closer look, soft mixtures of color and texture give the work a light and delicate appearance with painted 22K gold leaf brushed throughout. This eye-catching sculpture sits attached to a swivel platform, allowingyou to view it from every angle. All expertly and exquisitely honor scale and proportion.
Simple yet profound, Cardinale finishes the composition with a drawer on the front of the piece. Upon opening, Cardinale’s wife PJ, of 56 years, composes a mix-media collage paying homage to the church and the architect himself.
